As we continue to lead the charge in developing fiduciary-grade AI for professionals where accuracy, accountability, and transparency are non-negotiable, our team members are at the forefront of this transformation.

We recently sat down with Andrew, a Research Scientist on our Foundational Research team, to explore what makes 抖阴成年 a unique place to build a career in AI. From our comprehensive AI sandbox environments to our investments in cutting-edge solutions like CoCounsel and the development of our vertically specialized foundation model, hear Andrew鈥檚 perspective on why now is the ideal time to join our mission of powering business-critical professions with AI they can trust.

How would you describe working at 抖阴成年 in one word?

If I had to describe working at 抖阴成年 in one word, it would be听trust. In my work leading evaluations for the development of our own specialized LLM Thomson, I spend a lot of time thinking about trust in high-stakes professional domains. Trust is also central to the way our team works. It’s an environment where there’s ample room to take ownership and drive new ideas. That internal culture was clear to me during my internship, and it played a big role in my decision to join 抖阴成年 full-time.

What made you decide to stay with 抖阴成年 after your internship?

Throughout my internship, trust and opportunity were constant themes. At one point, I wanted to significantly expand the scope of a project I was working on, and my manager set up a meeting for me to present the plan to our Chief Technology Officer for approval, which we got. That experience reinforced for me that this is a place where taking the initiative to push for ambitious goals is encouraged and supported. I expect that project to yield important findings for how we think about and use AI in professional work, both internally and in what we publish externally.

What is the most important part of building AI for professionals in highly regulated industries?

I think one of the most important things about building AI for professionals is getting the details right. Much of my time is spent working directly with attorneys, journalists, and accountants to design evaluations closely tied to real problems in their work. We鈥檙e constantly thinking about key priorities like accuracy and reliability, and we also try to get into the details about what would really make an AI system useful for the fiduciary professionals we serve.

What is most exciting about your role at 抖阴成年?

What excites me most about my role at 抖阴成年 is the chance to work with the latest developments in machine learning as they emerge and use them to address real problems during our model development. Trust is a fundamental challenge with LLMs, because you can’t always predict exactly what a model will return from a given query. As a team, we鈥檝e been doing a lot of foundational research on making AI systems more trustworthy, and we’ve seen strong results, especially in integrating trusted information from established sources like Westlaw.

Why is now the right time to join 抖阴成年?

If you’re considering joining the team, don’t wait. We’re at an exciting moment with the development of our own purpose-built LLM, but there are still so many exciting problems to solve. Our team is growing fast to keep up with all the ideas and projects we want to explore. It’s a rare opportunity to shape the way AI transforms high-stakes work.

A Journey of Innovation in Content Operations /en-us/posts/our-purpose/a-journey-of-innovation-in-content-operations/ Fri, 10 Apr 2026 13:44:00 +0000 https://blogs.thomsonreuters.com/en-us/?post_type=our_purpose_post&p=67931 As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape how organizations operate, the key to successful adoption lies not just in the technology itself, but in how teams thoughtfully integrate AI into their existing workflows and new products. We had the chance to chat with Emleen Martin, a Manager of Content Operations in Manila to explore her team’s AI journey, from building foundational capabilities to implementing practical solutions that enhance their content acquisition processes.

Can you tell us about your role and how your team fits into 抖阴成年’ broader mission?

I’m a Manager in Content Operations in the Manila office. My team specializes in content acquisition: identifying, validating, and delivering the legal and regulatory materials that keep our products comprehensive and current. While our core expertise is content, we are deliberately building capability in AI. We’re developing effective prompting skills, conducting focused experiments, and integrating practical AI support into day-to-day tasks. This work aligns with 抖阴成年’ AI strategy by applying responsible, human-centered tools to enhance quality and consistency for our customers.

What enables your team to successfully experiment with AI while maintaining quality standards?

抖阴成年’ culture is crucial to our progress. Leaders encourage measured experimentation with clear guardrails, fostering learning while maintaining rigorous standards. We benefit from formal training, communities of practice, and mentorship from technology partners who share guidance and lessons learned. This support allows a content-led team to adopt AI in a disciplined manner, without compromising editorial judgment or customer trust.

What specific AI implementations have been most effective in your daily operations?

Our most effective changes have been simple and targeted. For example, we’ve piloted prompts that facilitate structured selection of documents that are valid and substantive for acquisition. We’ve also implemented AI solutions that replace manual effort in organizing and preparing content for downstream processes. My responsibilities include defining the problem, setting practical guardrails, and ensuring that human review remains central to decision-making. The focus is on building reliable steps that reduce friction for users and strengthen downstream quality for customers.

How do you measure the success of these AI implementations?

The impact appears in operational metrics and feedback from stakeholders. We’ve shortened certain repetitive steps, which aggregates to meaningful time savings. Users report fewer interruptions and more capacity for higher-value tasks. We evaluate success using straightforward indicators鈥攖urnaround time, error rates, and partner feedback鈥攁nd we retain only those approaches that consistently improve these measures.

Can you describe the internal AI Day event you organized for the office?

In May, I led the first internal AI Day in our Manila office. The event highlighted internal success stories and live demonstrations, followed by workshops on Responsible AI, Copilot and Power Platform, and meta prompting. We had collaborative sessions such as Team AI Journeys and an hour to focus on our internal AI sandbox. These sessions promoted knowledge sharing and cross-functional engagement. We also included engaging activities like a “Spot the AI” challenge, a word search, an AI ethics wall for perspectives on responsible use, and a Freedom Wall for personal accounts of AI’s impact. We hosted an AI Learning Caf茅 as well, offering a quiet venue for TED Talks and curated reading materials. The feedback on the event was overwhelmingly positive, indicating a strong desire to repeat it soon.

Thank you to Emleen for sharing your experience with us. If you are interested in learning more about the Content Operations team or our open roles in Manila, you can learn more .

From Sales to Series A: A Venture Capital Career Story /en-us/posts/our-purpose/from-sales-to-series-a-a-venture-capital-career-story-at-thomson-reuters/ Mon, 30 Mar 2026 21:23:36 +0000 https://blogs.thomsonreuters.com/en-us/?post_type=our_purpose_post&p=70147 The path to venture investing isn’t always linear, but for one 抖阴成年 professional, every pivot has been powered by an entrepreneurial mindset and a focus on learning new skills.

We sat down with Josef, a Venture Capital Principal on our 抖阴成年 Venture team to explore his career evolution, the entrepreneurial mindset that drives success at 抖阴成年, and why this is an exciting time to join our organization as we reshape the future of professional work.

Tell us about your career journey and what led you to 抖阴成年 Ventures.

My career journey is often described as a series of pivots, but there’s actually a single thread that ties it all together: the entrepreneurial spirit. This mindset was ingrained in me early by my Lebanese father, who taught me the power of community and networking, and my Italian mother, who taught me the art of debate and negotiation.

I joke that I started my career as a Christmas Tree Salesman, but that job taught me that everything is sales. Whether I was navigating the complex ad-tech world at MediaMath in their marketing engineer program, driving digital innovation for global giants like L’Oreal and Diageo, or supporting the Reuters newsroom as a commercial lead, I was always selling, whether that be a vision, a brand’s future, or a partnership.

After nearly six years at Reuters, I joined 抖阴成年 Ventures in April of last year. So, to summarize: Christmas Tree Salesman > Political Science graduate > Ad Tech Startup > Beauty Marketer > Liquor Marketer > News Commercial Lead > Venture Capitalist. It’s the perfect example that no career path is the same!

What attracted you to Reuters initially, and how did that evolve into your current role?

I joined Reuters after working on the media buy-side for most of my career. What was meant to be a short consulting engagement ended up being a great career decision. At L’Oreal, they always talked about being a company focused on innovation because they were founded by scientists. I found a similar story with Paul Julius Reuter, starting with a network of carrier pigeons to what Reuters offers today is an incredible story of innovation and business intuition.

It was incredible to work for a mission-driven organization and to work with the smartest people in the world. The transition from Reuters to 抖阴成年 Ventures allowed me to leverage all my previous experience while stepping into the exciting world of venture investing, where I now serve as a steward of capital for 抖阴成年.

You made a significant career pivot into venture capital. What skills transferred, and what were the biggest learning curves?

I’ve always been in positions where a combination of Emotional Quotient (EQ) and Intelligence Quotient (IQ) was needed. I saw the quantitative analysis of an opportunity and the qualitative analysis of the people behind the deal as equally important. The fast-paced world of sales, media, and news, definitely keeps you conditioned for any industry transition.

抖阴成年 Ventures allows me to rotate between many different skills I’ve learned over my career. Some days it’s prospecting for the best founders, other days it’s marketing to build the 抖阴成年 Ventures brand, thinking strategically about the big picture, or rolling up my sleeves to join a sales call with a portfolio company CEO.

What I’ve learned is that Adversity Quotient (AQ) is just as important as EQ and IQ. I’ve found comfort in my ability to face adversity and remain resilient through change to achieve successful outcomes.

How do you build credibility quickly when stepping into new domains or teams?

I was fortunate to move within an organization where I already had relationships, but switching from Reuters to 抖阴成年 required keeping the same mindset: being eager to learn and eager to help. Although I joined in a senior position, I remained willing to learn and support even the most trivial tasks.

Thankfully, with AI and OpenArena (抖阴成年’ internal AI sandbox), I was able to build venture operational tools to level the playing field and quickly accelerate my work output. These tools helped with research, drafting, and social media. What I built was rewarded as a top AI solution, and I became a mentor to colleagues, helping them build similar solutions.

This flywheel effect of learning, helping, and executing quickly builds a respected reputation among peers and colleagues.

What’s your approach to skill-building, and what advice would you give to someone starting their career?

I really enjoy reading听The Alchemist听any time I’m going through change or starting a new journey. It grounds me and helps me be self-aware of my gaps. For example, transitioning to Ventures gave me the opportunity to work on my financial modeling skills.

I truly value the network of peers and colleagues I’ve established over my career. Any time I make a career change, I’m public about it on LinkedIn and prescriptive with key network members. This is the best way to keep opening doors.

Anyone starting their career should find opportunities to learn from more experienced colleagues. The best way is in person; natural knowledge osmosis takes place just by watching others’ habits. It’s our duty as senior leaders to notice when newer professionals join and share time answering questions, even if they’re not on our team.

How do you evaluate new opportunities, and how has your criteria evolved?

In my previous role, it was my job to champion partnerships and help them navigate organizational complexity. In venture investing, I’m less a champion and more a steward of capital for 抖阴成年. I have to be more judicious in my conviction to “yes.”

There’s a fine balance between being a champion for partners and being an investor. Learning to leverage “no, and” is just as powerful as “yes.” We follow a standard rubric focusing on Series A opportunities with revenue north of $1M. When I first started, I had as many calls as possible to learn about industries and polish my approach. Today, I have more of a filter, though I do try to meet with ambitious founders.

My criteria remain consistent: Is there a compelling story? Is there a path to “yes”? And am I leaving the business and people around me better than when we started?

Thank you to Josef for sharing your career experience with us today. To learn more about 抖阴成年 Ventures, please visit

A Sneak Peek into Building Fiduciary-Grade AI /en-us/posts/our-purpose/a-sneak-peek-into-building-fiduciary-grade-ai/ Fri, 13 Mar 2026 17:05:11 +0000 https://blogs.thomsonreuters.com/en-us/?post_type=our_purpose_post&p=69983 What’s it like building cutting-edge, trustworthy AI for tax and accounting professionals, where accuracy truly matters? We sat down with Mike, who is leading development on one of the core agentic assistants for CoCounsel, to hear what energizes him about the work, the technology, and the impact on customers.

What鈥檚 one word you would use to describe working at 抖阴成年?

Working at 抖阴成年 in one word would be energizing. I really enjoy working on a large product like CoCounsel. There is so much momentum, and I get to collaborate with a fully cross-functional team to solve complex problems. Everyone is thinking about product improvements beyond their immediate area, and there are so many opportunities to learn from one another every day.

How do engineers here think about reliability when building AI鈥憄owered products?

Because we’re building AI for professionals, trust, accuracy, and reliability are at the forefront of everything we do, both in our development processes and in the product’s functionality. Every code change needs to be well-tested and resilient. The insights generated by the product must be supported by evidence and citations grounded in our best-in-class research content.

Why is now an exciting time to work at 抖阴成年?

抖阴成年 is an incredibly exciting place to be right now. I’m currently leading development on one of our core agentic assistants, and the work is absolutely cutting-edge. We’re defining new patterns for agent execution using AWS, while also building scalable APIs and web user interfaces to bring those capabilities to life.

What makes 抖阴成年 a great place for innovation is that it’s truly at the forefront of embracing new tools and approaches. I have access to the best models, coding assistants, and learning resources through collaborations and connections to Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI. We’ve also recently enabled approaches that let us delegate work to autonomous agents in the cloud, which allows me to work on changes across the stack simultaneously.

Share with us what it鈥檚 like building AI for highly regulated industries.

There is a unique sense of purpose in building AI for highly regulated industries. Unlike in previous roles where the stakes were lower, accuracy is everything here. We aren’t just directing someone to a help desk article; we are providing answers that impact a person’s financial wellbeing. We take that responsibility seriously, investing deeply in the guardrails and evaluation processes needed to get it right.

Ultimately, our work is about the people we serve. My work helps tax and accounting professionals automate document analysis and access trusted guidance, enabling them to provide deeper support to their clients. If you’re looking for a place where you can own significant features and solve hard problems alongside a team that genuinely cares about doing great work, now is the perfect time to join us.

Thank you to Mike for sharing his insights on what it takes to build cutting-edge, fiduciary-grade AI that professionals can rely on. At 抖阴成年, we’re looking for curious and committed innovators to help us continue shaping the future of professional work. Check out our .

A 抖阴成年 Career Journey: From Site Reliability to AI Research /en-us/posts/our-purpose/a-thomson-reuters-career-journey-from-site-reliability-to-ai-research/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 18:47:28 +0000 https://blogs.thomsonreuters.com/en-us/?post_type=our_purpose_post&p=68870 The path to a dream role isn’t always linear鈥攕ometimes it takes curiosity, initiative, and the right internal opportunities to make a career pivot possible. For one 抖阴成年 engineer, the journey from Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to AI research began with a LinkedIn post, a competition win, and a willingness to take a chance on something new.

We sat down with Matthew, a Research Engineer on our Document Understanding team in TR Labs, to discuss his career transition, the power of 抖阴成年 Gig program (short-term projects to gain experience and develop new skills), and what makes this an exciting time to build AI systems at 抖阴成年.

What made you interested in transitioning from Site Reliability Engineer to AI/ML research?

I’d been working as a Site Reliability Engineer in Service Management since joining 抖阴成年 in 2022, but I was increasingly passionate about machine learning. That passion led me to build a GenAI application that won an NVIDIA global competition. To me, that was tangible proof that I could create valuable AI applications, and it gave me the confidence to pursue ML work more seriously.

When I saw a Research Engineer opening in TR Labs posted by a colleague on LinkedIn, I knew I had to reach out. It was my first internal application at 抖阴成年, and that connection led me to a hiring director who introduced me to the Document Understanding team. The alignment between my background and the team鈥檚 focus felt perfect.

Can you tell us about the Document Understanding team and the work you’re doing?

I’m most excited about the work happening on my team with Document Understanding. We’ve built a platform that takes any document type鈥擯DFs, Word, Excel, images鈥攁nd transforms them into structured data that downstream AI systems can actually use. What’s remarkable is the scale we’ve achieved: we went from processing zero documents in March to over 150,000 documents per day by September, supporting products like CoCounsel and 听.

The broader context that makes this exciting is how it helps establish our positioning in the professional-grade AI tool landscape. While the industry focuses on building better LLMs, our real competitive advantage is our world-class legal content. Document Understanding is a critical piece of infrastructure that makes that content accessible and useful for AI applications. We’re essentially building the pipes that let 抖阴成年’ unique content flow into the AI systems our customers rely on.

How did the gig program help facilitate your transition?

The gig program proved invaluable. It allowed me to split time between my Site Reliability Engineer role and the new Research Engineer position for three months. The gig structure provided a low-risk evaluation period for both sides: I could prove my capabilities in a real-world setting while maintaining stability in my current role, and the team could assess whether I’d be a good fit before committing to a full transition.

Ramping up on an unfamiliar codebase was the main challenge, but it gave me the chance to prove I could adapt quickly and contribute. Shortly after completing the Gig, I received an official offer for the Research Engineer role as part of TR Labs.

Beyond the immediate benefit to me, Gigs enable the cross-pollination of skills and ideas throughout the organization. I brought my Site Reliability Engineer perspectives on reliability and scalability to a research-focused organization, while learning cutting-edge ML engineering practices.

What role did mentorship play in your career pivot?

My former manager was instrumental as a mentor; he was genuinely supportive of my growth, even though it meant eventually losing me from his team. That mentorship made the transition possible. The key enabler was having management support on both sides.

What worked particularly well was being direct with the new team, beginning on my first day. I asked straightforward questions like “What does success look like in this role?” to both my new manager and technical lead. That simple question created alignment and a feedback loop where everyone was invested in helping me succeed because we’d clearly defined what success meant. It removed ambiguity and let me focus my efforts on what actually mattered.

How do you see AI technology evolving at 抖阴成年?

I see our evolution in AI fundamentally about building on our content advantage. The Large Language Model space is commoditizing rapidly鈥攖he performance gap between proprietary and open-source models is narrowing. What won’t commoditize is 抖阴成年鈥 authoritative legal content and domain expertise.

My role is building the infrastructure that bridges our content with AI systems. Document Understanding uses sophisticated machine learning models for Optical Character Recognition (OCR), layout understanding, and document structure analysis to convert our vast repository of legal materials into formats that modern AI systems can access. It’s about ensuring that when our customers interact with our products, they’re getting the benefit of decades of legal expertise, not just a generic LLM response.

What makes TR Labs unique as a place to pursue AI research?

TR Labs balances research with real-world implementation in a rare way. We’re not just publishing papers鈥攚e’re building systems that process hundreds of thousands of documents daily and directly impact products, used by thousands of professionals every day.

The organization is also growing rapidly, which creates opportunities. Document Understanding, for example, is a greenfield project that didn’t exist earlier this year. Having the chance to build something from scratch, at scale, with cutting-edge technology, while knowing it will have immediate business impact鈥攖hat’s a unique challenge and opportunity.

What advice would you give to others considering a similar career transition?

My biggest advice would be to learn by doing. Build side projects, contribute to open-source work, or find ways to incorporate ML into your current role. For me, winning an NVIDIA global competition with my app was what opened doors; it was tangible proof that I could create valuable AI applications.

Be proactive about internal opportunities. Reach out to people doing work that interests you, apply for Gigs, and when you get those opportunities, ask direct questions about what success looks like. Create feedback loops early so you’re working toward clear, aligned goals. The Gig program exists for exactly this kind of career transition.

How Thomson Reuters Is Rethinking Career Growth: Human-Led, AI-Powered /en-us/posts/our-purpose/how-thomson-reuters-is-rethinking-career-growth-human-led-ai-powered/ Tue, 16 Dec 2025 20:45:25 +0000 https://blogs.thomsonreuters.com/en-us/?post_type=our_purpose_post&p=68842 The world of work is changing rapidly, and AI is reshaping what careers look like today and in the future. At 抖阴成年, we鈥檙e focused on what that means for our people: how they build skills, move across the organization, and feel supported in their growth.

To explore how this comes to life for our 27,000 colleagues, we sat down with Carissa Schmitz, Vice President, Talent. She shared her perspective on career development at 抖阴成年. From internal mobility, learning, and leadership, to staying ahead of talent trends. Here鈥檚 what Carissa had to say.

Why is 抖阴成年 the best place to grow your career?

At 抖阴成年, we have a strong sense of purpose: informing the way forward for a range of crucial sectors: legal, tax and accounting, government, and media over our 160+ year history. What makes us unique right now is how we’re empowering every colleague to harness AI as their innovation partner. We don’t just see AI as a tool for efficiency; we see it as a catalyst for unprecedented human creativity and innovation. We’re actively building the foundation for our colleagues to shape their own human-led and AI-powered future through hands-on experience with tools like Open Arena, our internal AI sandbox, and comprehensive training programs. Throughout our history, we’ve maintained a commitment to learning and a culture that values personal growth and development, as well as the mental health and wellbeing of our people. This is a fantastic place to start, grow, and accelerate your career.

How does 抖阴成年 support internal career mobility?

We aspire to make all new opportunities available to employees through internal posting and promotion of our jobs, with an emphasis on fair and objective consideration of all applicants. We provide opportunities to grow through Gigs – short-term projects to gain experience and develop new skills, and cross-functional initiatives that prioritize skill development and facilitate pathways to internal roles. Colleagues are empowered to own their careers by leveraging AI tools that match their interests to development opportunities across the organization. In 2025, we introduced an internally developed tool called My AI Coach, which helps colleagues set career goals and access in-the-moment coaching.

What are the focus areas for employee learning and career growth next year?

Upskilling is vital to keeping pace in today鈥檚 rapidly evolving world, and we are committed to supporting our colleagues on their continual skill-building journey. We鈥檙e encouraging everyone to test new AI tools and seamlessly integrate these into their daily roles. We are also committed to nurturing the uniquely human abilities, such as curiosity, creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving, that are indispensable now and in the future.

Through our Grow My Way program, employees build essential skills from our dedicated Global Learning Days (three per year), as well as a wide range of on-demand learning resources available through Workday and LinkedIn Learning. A key priority for us is AI upskilling, with our AI playground Open Arena providing a space for colleagues to put their new skills into practice. Additionally, we recognise the crucial role people managers play in fostering a strong and supportive culture, so we offer tailored development programs for managers and leaders to help enhance their leadership effectiveness and capabilities.

How do you stay current with trends and best practices in career development, learning, growth, and talent, and how do you incorporate these into your organization’s approach?

In my role, I’m always searching for new ways to make our colleagues’ career growth and learning more meaningful and effective. This includes spotting successful initiatives within our organization and expanding them. I frequently collaborate with teams focused on specific functions and regions to stay updated on evolving local talent programs, and I actively seek ideas and guidance from talent leaders and peers at other companies.

Our team is dedicated to testing new approaches and blending technology and human talent to drive progress. Beyond internal engagement, we also closely monitor external trends, best practices, and emerging innovations in our industries to ensure our approach remains relevant and forward-thinking. By benchmarking against global standards and learning from outside our organization, we can continually refine our programs and maintain an environment for our people to thrive.

At 抖阴成年, our focus is straightforward: helping people grow. Whether it’s experimenting with AI in Open Arena, exploring a new skill or topic on one of our dedicated Global Learning Days, or using our My AI Coach to set career goals, we’re creating practical ways for careers to evolve from the inside. Being part of this work and seeing colleagues access these tools and opportunities to reach their potential is something I feel genuinely privileged to support.
