The crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) in Canada represents a profound human rights challenge. Despite comprising only 5% of the population, Indigenous women and girls account for over 50% of human trafficking victims and are tragically six times more likely to be murdered than other women. This horrific over-representation points to deeper, systemic issues, often leading to a swift and alarming transition from disappearance to exploitation in online sex-ad ecosystems.

In response, �������� has launched new research to illuminate these urgent connections. Utilizing sophisticated geospatial analysis, this research uncovers critical trends, identifying urban hotspots like Winnipeg and Edmonton, where MMIW cases tragically correlate with human trafficking activity. This data-driven approach highlights the need for integrated efforts and stronger cross-border collaboration. As Heather C. Millions of low-income Americans face civil legal challenges without the support they need. At ��������, we believe technology can help bridge this gap. That’s why we launched the , providing nonprofit legal organizations with access to CoCounsel, our revolutionary AI legal assistant, through the Legal Innovators Incubator.

The inaugural Incubator class brought together nine nonprofit organizations, including The Innocence Center, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and Lawyers Alliance for New York. For one year, these organizations received complimentary access to CoCounsel, empowering them to tackle complex legal workstreams faster and more efficiently. Using our advanced tool, they were able to dramatically streamline time-intensive tasks, such as identifying inconsistencies in witness statements, fact-checking, and drafting legal documents.

Mike Semanchik, Executive Director of The Innocence Center, shared how CoCounsel transformed their case review process, stating, “When we review cases, we must go page-by-page, and often you might miss something. CoCounsel is capturing it all and citing back to it.” This level of efficiency means more individuals can receive the legal help they desperately need.

In addition to technology, our program offers hands-on training and support, ensuring organizations can maximize the benefits of generative AI for their unique needs. The knowledge and playbooks developed through the Incubator will be shared broadly to amplify impact across the legal aid sector.
